Future Garner Road Reconstruction 

Wilson Street to Hwy 403 Off Ramp and Hwy 403 Off Ramp to West 5th Street

​

Construction, starting at the east end (Rymal Road) is expected to commence in approximately 2029 or 2030 at the earliest, pending budget approvals.​

Wilson Street to the Highway 403 off-ramp

​The City of Hamilton has completed a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to address traffic, active transportation, and stormwater management needs along Garner Road West.​

  • Study area:

    • Garner: Wilson St West to the Highway 403 off ramp

  • Cross section: For this section of Garner Rd, there is a four-lane cross-section planned. This will consist of two lanes in each direction.

  • Active Transportation: For the portion along Garner, a multi-use path is planned for the north side and a sidewalk for the south side.

  • Construction along this Garner portion will not begin until at least 2029.

Garner Road MCEA - Engage Hamilton

Highway 403 off-ramp to West 5th Street

​The City of Hamilton has completed a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to address traffic, active transportation, and stormwater management needs along Garner Road East.​

    • Garner: West of the Highway 403 off ramp to Glancaster

    • Rymal: Glancaster to West 5th

    • Garth: Rymal to Stone Church

  • Cross section: For the portion along Garner, there is a five-lane cross-section planned. This will consist of two lanes in each direction and a centre turning lane.

  • Active Transportation: For the portion along Garner, the final active transportation plan is still being reviewed to consider consistency with neighbouring segments, context area changes, and other concerns voiced since the completion of the EA.

  • Construction along the Garner portion will not begin until at least 2029.
